Genkoyoshi Step 1b is the second notebook in our eight-step progressive Japanese writing practice system. It uses a 7 × 9 grid, giving you 63 writing boxes per page; ideal for learners who are ready to move beyond very large beginner boxes while still benefiting from generous spacing.

Each box includes a subtle dashed centre guideline to help you understand proportion, spacing, and character balance. The slightly smaller grid gives you more writing space per page while still providing the visual support needed for neat, readable hiragana, katakana, beginner kanji, and basic vocabulary.

This notebook is especially suitable for beginners who have outgrown Step 1a, young learners, self-study students, Japanese-language classrooms, and anyone preparing to write more words and short phrases without moving too quickly into standard-sized genkō yōshi.
